The LYCRA Company, Naveena, and ONLY & SONS have come together to introduce denim made with RENEWABLE LYCRA® fiber, showcasing how collaboration across the value chain can enable material innovation while maintaining the performance standards consumers expect.

At the core of this project is RENEWABLE LYCRA® fiber, made with 70% renewable content. Using advanced fermentation technology, raw material derived from field corn is converted into a key fiber ingredient that replaces fossil‑based inputs—while delivering the same stretch and recovery as conventional LYCRA® fiber.

Performance without compromise

RENEWABLE LYCRA® fiber is engineered to perform like traditional LYCRA® fiber, enabling a seamless transition for brands, mills and consumers alike.

Key features include:

  • 70% renewable content*

  • Up to 45% lower CO₂ emissions*

  • Identical fiber performances compared to conventional LYCRA® fiber

“Working with RENEWABLE LYCRA® fiber allowed us to integrate renewable inputs into denim without changing the way the fabric performs,” said Aydan Tuzun, Senior Vice President at Naveena. “It’s a strong example of how innovation at the fiber level can be scaled through fabric development while respecting performance requirements.”

A closer look at the denim fabric

The project features a single‑core denim fabric with cotton and RENEWABLE LYCRA® fiber, developed in a Sila Black/Black fabric execution. The fabric has been designed to support a slim‑fit silhouette, combining the look and hand feel of traditional cotton denim with the stretch and recovery expected from LYCRA® brand fiber.

By integrating RENEWABLE LYCRA® fiber into this fabric construction, Naveena demonstrate how renewable content can be incorporated into contemporary denim styles while maintaining established fabric structures and fit intentions.

A shared approach to better balance

By working together, this capsule collection illustrates how collaboration can help strike a better balance between performance expectations and reduced reliance on fossil‑based inputs, without asking consumers to compromise on fit or comfort.

RENEWABLE LYCRA® fiber is aligned with recognized industry standards, including ISCC+, USDA BioPreferred® and a third‑party verified Life Cycle Assessment, helping ensure transparency and credibility across the value chain.

“For ONLY & SONS, this collaboration shows that responsible material choices can go hand in hand with comfort, fit and performance,” said Kenneth Bennetzen, Strategic Sourcing Manager at ONLY & SONS Denim. “What is especially important to us is that the claims behind the materials are supported by recognized, third‑party certifications and verified assessments.”
